Amazing gadget!, 2010-08-24 This is an amazing product! I wasn't convinced at first but that's because I put it back together wrong after rinsing it. I would definitely recommend it. The only thing I would say is that the packaging doesnt state whether it's dishwasher proof.

Fantastic Philips blender, 2010-07-07 Brilliant green smoothie maker!
Quieter than most blenders, good quality product by a top company (guaranteed two years) and not too hard on the wallet. When you put the base section with the cutters back into the bottom of the jug (removable for easy cleaning), make sure it has the sealing ring fitted, then turn it anti-clockwise till tight. Jug and lid are easily separated too.
Not intending to grind with it, but great for green smoothies. Try this: Big handful of fresh spinach, one cabbage leaf, one apple (cored), one large banana, one pint water.

Russell Hobbs
Russell Hobbs 4101 Stainless Steel Corded No-Nonsense Kettle, 2010-07-22 There is only one thing wrong with the Russell Hobbs 4101 stainless steel corded kettle- the power cord is too short and that can easily be fixed by getting a longer cord- they are the standard IEC mains type.
I can't remember how long we have had our 4101, but it's probably around 15 years. It replaced the previous model which as far as I can remember lasted 20 years. We haven't looked after it but it seems to be bullet proof and just keeps going- it has been turned on empty and we leave it boiling- it just switches itself off. We have never decaled it but the inside is as clean as a whistle, but we do fill it with filtered water. Other more fancy kettles just don't seem to be so robust.
After about 14 years we found a clear plastic assembly lying on the element. It was the mechanism that indicates the water level. As it was broken at the top, and any way we never look at the water level indicator, we just threw the mechanism away and the kettle operated just as before.
So if you want a simple no nonsense kettle that is reliable and easy to use, the Russell Hobbs 4101 is a good choice- it's reasonably priced too.

Philips DAP (UK Kitchen and Home Supplier)
Small but perfect for the job, 2010-02-19 My mother-in-law has a small kitchen and she's not very tall. She also has arthritis. This blender was the perfect replacement for her 70s monster. Why don't more manufacturers design blenders where the jug is stored upside down over the base? It saves loads of space, just the ticket. It's also easy to use, not too tight fitting but no spillage, ideal for weaker hands. I definitely rate this highly - and it's cheap, too!

Great that someone invented this!, 2010-08-25 I was a bit sceptical about buying these sponges when I ordered my new George Foreman Grill, but I'm glad I did. After wiping the main residue off with kitchen towel (while the plates are still quite warm), a quick wipe with a damp sponge does the trick. I used to use a dishcloth on my old grill, but that often resulted in burnt fingers! The sponge is far more effective.

Nice, Functional Design but for the Switch, 2010-08-10 Like: The design - it cleverly allows for the appliance to stand squarely while not in use, for the cord to be wrapped around tidily and securely, and for the beaters to be stored on the appliance instead of getting lost or bent at the back of a drawer.
Don't like: The operating switch - it feels rather flimsy, and it needs a very careful thumb to move it to and fro one step at a time. So it's easy, for example, to have to go from 0 to 2 then back to 1 instead of getting there in one click.
Not keen on: The main body material being chromed plastic, which often makes things look and feel a bit cheaper than they deserve. But that was known in advance, so it's not so much a criticism as a tip for anyone with a clinical aversion to chromed plastic.
Oh, it does actually feel very solid and works as intended.
